REGISTRATION DEADLINE Aug 23, 2012 Bikes - Bison - Blasts Lawton/Ft Sill Come to where the west meets the wild and have a blast experiencing the influence of Native Americans, pioneers and military heroes. Experience the history of Lawton Fort Sill by visiting the Museum of the Great Plains and Red River Trading Post, Fort Sill Army Post, U.S. Army Field Artillery Museum, The Comanche National Museum, Geronimo’s Grave and more Then blast onto the roads of some of the best riding in Oklahoma. Nestled alongside the Wichita Mountains in southwest Oklahoma, the Wichita Mountains Scenic Byway showcases an awe-inspiring mosaic of rocky lowlands, mixed-grass prairie and cross timbers. Motorcyclists will be greeted with twisty, winding roads, bursts of color and beautiful foliage in the fall. One thing that makes this motorcycle ride stand out is the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge. More than 50 species of mammals, 240 species of birds and 64 species of reptiles are free-ranging on the property, which means that it's not unusual to see a giant buffalo crossing the road. Make sure to enjoy the spiraling ride to the top of Mount Scott for spectacular, never ending views of the scenery below. In between all the great riding and visiting the historic Fort Sill come to the Bike Rally Site and watch World Record American Daredevil, Bubba Blackwell. To ride on the Post you will need full protective gear including a bright vest, DOT approved helmet, gloves, eye protection, boots, long sleeves and pants. Firearms are also not allowed.
