Sturgis RallyAugust 6-12, 2012 in Sturgis South DakotaThis biker rally is known by many names including 72nd Anniversary Sturgis Rally, Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Black Hills Motorcycle Rally & Races, Sturgis Rally 2012, Sturgis Bike Week, or just plain Sturgis. What ever you decide to call it, come join thousands of your best friends for a week of fun. The rally is held on Main street between 4th street and Middle street and officially opens at noon. Events include bike shows, vendors, runs, racing, hill climbs, and much more. In addition to many official rally activities there are many individual events in Sturgis the surrounding area. Sturgis Rally 2012 is expected to be a very spectacular event as always. More events, vendors and fun times to be had by all. Black Hills will hosts the 72nd Annual Sturgis Rally also know as Sturgis Bike Week. It is the worlds largest Biker Rally of it's kind. Bikers and riders come from all ove the world to attend this event. Bikers enjoy riding through the wonderful and scenic beauty that the Black Hills communities have to offer. The magic of the Hills is mesmerizing and the roads, well; there are few places on this good earth that offer this kind of riding. Incredible roads like Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, the Wildlife Loop, Vanocker Canyon Road and Spearfish Canyon take you to amazing destinations - Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, Bear Butte State Park, the Badlands and Devil’s Tower National Monument. Highway 14A’s big, wide turns transport you to the infamous town of Deadwood and the mining town of Lead, and the awe inspiring Highway 385 meanders past towns like Hill City, Silver City and Custer, all contained in the Black Hills National Forest. It’s breathtaking and it’s glorious and it will make you want to come back. Don't forget about all the racing at Sturgis. The Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club started in 1936, with an official American Motorcycle Association (AMA) charter in 1937. AMA began promoting the racing events; which started the now famous Rally in Sturgis on August 14, 1938. That weekend celebration in 1938 had a lineup of only nine racers and a small audience watching the races. The average age for a motorcycle club is three years, and after 76 years, this club is still running strong. The club owns all the property on which most of our club activities take place. There is approximately 40 acres adjacent to Interstate 90 between Exit 30 and Exit 32, the busiest section of Interstate 90 during the Sturgis Rally. A lighted short track, motocross track, field meet area, hillclimb area, clubhouse, office and state approved concession business are located on these grounds. The Jackpine Gypsies are a non-profit organization. They donate to area charities, including: the local food bank, Sturgis High School, Zonta Club of Sturgis, and Christian Motorcycle Association. Go to their site if you are interested in becoming a member There are plenty of places to stay like the excellent Sturgis campgrounds including (motoZania members) Glencoe CampResort, Shade Valley, The Broken Spoke, and The Buffalo Chip. While in Sturgis, make sure to visit the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame (they are MotoZania members!)
