6th annual Louisiana Melon RunSaturday, July 28, 2012 in Farmerville, LouisianaThe Louisiana Melon Run is an event just for motorcyclists that is very similar to a traditional Poker Run, with the exception that the winning “hand” is the total points added together from collected cards, numbered from 1 to 250. The Melon Run was first introduced in conjunction with the Louisiana Watermelon Festival in Farmerville, Louisiana, thus the name. Registration begins at 8:00 am Courthouse Annex Parking Lot 303 East Water Street Farmerville , LA 71241 (across from Big Star Grocery) The route for the Melon Run each year is a little different and is normally approximately 100 miles long. At each stop, participants will draw a numbered card that will be recorded on their scorecard. Once all numbers have been drawn, participants will return their scorecard to the registration tent. Numbers are tallied and cash 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes are then awarded, along with various doorprizes. The Louisiana Melon Run, Inc. is a non-profit organization which benefits Breast Cancer Awareness on both the national and local levels. Half of the proceeds are donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The other half of the proceeds are to be used to provide grants to Union Parish breast cancer victims in need of financial assistance.
