Perhaps it was the appeal of hard sand, warm winter days and the excitement of that first motorcycle race on the beach, that made Daytona Beach the home of Bike Week. Maybe it was the spirited activities surrounding the event that have kept people keep coming back. Whatever the case, Daytona Bike Week has been a tradition since January 24, 1937 - the inaugural running of the Daytona 200.

Daytona Beach Bike Week, The Daytona 200 and Daytona Motorcycle Rally and Event is one of the largest motorcycle rallies in the world held annually at Daytona Beach Florida. The event draws over a half million bikers from all over the planet.

Breaking from tradition, Bike Week 2012 will take place a week later next year. The motorcycle rally, which just celebrated its 70th anniversary, is moving from its initial projected date of March 2-11, to March 9-18, 2012, according to the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce. The move coincides with NASCAR’s decision to push the date of the 2012 Daytona 500 back one week. Daytona International Speedway requires two weeks to make the conversion from car to motorcycle racing, including the building of a Supercross track on the Speedway’s infield.
